The twin cities of Monroe / West Monroe are located along the banks of the Ouachita River in Northeast Louisiana. RecreationThe mild climate of northeastern Louisiana encourages year-round outdoor activity. Known as 'The Sportsman's Paradise', the region is able to offer something for everyone, from hunting and fishing to camping and bird watching. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries manages dozens of sites in the area and most offer educational resources as well as the opportunity to participate in specific conservation- related programs. Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge consists of a 1,600 acre lake nestled within the boundaries of a 4,600 acre refuge and is just minutes away from Monroe. The Louisiana Purchase Zoo is open year-round and offers visitors boat tours, educational programs and volunteer opportunities. |
